Kids Achievement Program Another unique feature of our Martial Arts Australia is the Kids Martial Arts Achievement  Program. This program is set up on three levels for children (8 to 12 years) and allows students to gain extra credit and recognition for their skills in 12 important areas of life including: Goal Setting, First Aid, Safety, Voluntary Services and Charity, Fitness and Nutrition etc.
 
Special Events Each month Martial Arts Australia offers special fun-filled family events where our students can experience new concepts at seminars, participate in tournaments or just have fun! Assessing Progress When you first walk into our school you will notice that the students all wear different coloured belts representing various levels or grades. This is part of the martial arts tradition and is used to indicate the level of accomplishment and mastery of skills. As you increase your level of skill, you will move up through the grades by changing the colour of your belt to symbolize your achievement. When yo begin your training you will start with a red belt. Within 4 weeks of joining Martial Arts Australia you will be invited to attend a grading exam and your first belt rank promotion. After demonstrating your skill level in many of the basic moves you have learned, you will be awarded your white belt. With each coloured belt you will also receive a certificate of promotion as an offical certification of your skill.
 
The Rank Promotion Procedure Achieving each new grade requires you to demonstrate specific techniques and skills. Your instructor will monitor you progress and will invite you to the next scheduled grading exam date when he feels you are ready. Grading exams are free with a minimal fee of $10 to cover the cost of your new coloured belt and your grading certificate.
 
Schedules and Course Options Martial Arts Australia offers convenient schedules at affordable rates. We are open six days a week, to make it easy for you to study and progress through the ranks. Our instructors are dedicated to helping you progress at a self paced manner or as rapidly as you wish within the guidelines of the curriculum and syllabus.
 
Group Classes Group classes feature self defense instruction, physical conditioning, various reaction drills, and training exercises designed to build the skills necessary for effective self defense. Enrolling in a group program allows you to attend a minimum of two regular sessions per week. Should you miss a class for any reason, you may make it up the following week or attend one of the special make up classes.
 
Private Lessons Private lessons are available for the student who seeks a more acclerated and personalised training program. Private lessons can be scheduled at anytime you wish, based upon the instructor's availability.
 
Special Programs and Discounts Discounts and concessions are available on the Family Plans, Long Term Study Programs and Advanced Training Programs such as our Shugyokai (Black Belt - Above and Beyond).
 
Adult Programs At Martial Arts Australia we believe that developing and maintaining a sound body and mind are critical to getting the most out of life. In our adult programs  you will experience a unique approach to self defense and exercise that benefits the body and the mind. To strengthen your body, you will begin with isometric and dynamic tension exercises. Flexibility will be enhanced through a gradual building process of safe and easy stretching techniques. The Martial Arts Australia System Martial Arts Australia employs a complete, integrated system that will teach you the techniques you need to defend yourself intelligently in threatening situations. Our system will also teach you how to respond to a variety of problems such as:

Children's Programs At Martial Arts Australia, our children's programs are second to none. Questions and Answers 
 
Q: How many classes per week should I attend? A: We recommend two classes per week, plus a certain amount of practice time at home in between classes as the perfect level of training. This allows the student time to work on material between classes and become proficient before new concepts are introduced.
 
Q: Will there be other beginners in my class? A: At Martial Arts Australia all students are grouped by age and nearest belt grade. In this way, you will be in a class with students at your age and skill level. In addition we will also assign you a "buddy" so you can quickly learn about the school from an existing student.
 
Q: Will the Martial Arts Australia program make my child overly aggressive? A: At Martial Arts Australia children are taught that the martial arts are not to be used in aggression, but rather to defend onself in problematic situations. Aggressive behavior is channeled into assertiveness to increase the child's self esteem, increase self discipline and build character. Our program also helps the shy child to develop self confidence and become more assertive.
 
Q: Will my classes be safe? A: Absolutely. All classes taught at Martial Arts Australia are strictly monitored to ensure complete safety. All of our instructors are AMAIF certified and undergo continuing education in the fields of instruction, coaching, risk assessment, first aid, sports medicine and sports administration.
 
Q: What about sparring? A: All students interested in sparring are required to wear WKF and IJF approved protective equipment, the best  available on the market and are strictly supervised. Sparring (kumidori) is based on counter fighting skills not on a tug-o-war or volley type exchanges. Matches go for 2 to 3 minutes with a designated attacker/agressor (ukemi or uchidachi) and a designated defender/counter fighter (torimi or shidachi). Consequently, the chance of injury is very small.
 
Q: How long will it take me to become reasonably proficient? A: The time it takes to become proficient varies with each individual depending on the effort they put forth. At Martial Arts Australia students are very often amazed by their own ability and accomplishment in as little as three to six months. This training will give you the confidence of knowing that you can defend yourself in most situations. Your real goal, however, should be to attain the rank of Black Belt and Beyond. This level of proficiency typically takes about three years. Once again, however, this will vary depending on your level of effort and desire
